The nine artists based in this art district jointly sponsored and organized this exhibition, displaying their latest creations. Except for a fresh painter, who newly graduated from an art academy, all of them are cutting-edge artists of the 1980s. Still active in the front line of Chinese art circles, they seem to have kept their early idealism. Although these artists applied various artistic techniques from different perspectives, they all pay little attention to the current trend and vogue. Instead, they have attached great importance to their genuine understanding of society, human habitation environment, and modern history. That¡¯s why we can feel a kind of humanistic concern from their works. They try to show us through art that no matter how fast society around us changes in the process of globalization and what a great material affluence we have achieved, the problems we are facing have never changed. Our desire for power would not fade even though we realize material affluence and spatial freedom, on the contrary, humanity would be more likely to degenerate. Centralized politics and commercial advertising are not as different from each other as people assume, and as a matter of fact, they often share certain effective channels of mass communication. Of course, art can hardly solve the problems, but art is obligated to bring to light the problems. I hope that these artists will maintain their dynamics and continue to reveal problems in their own ways with their sensational enthusiasm.
I wish all success to the exhibition!
