Tian’anmen Rostrum is the most typical stage with the above-mentioned properties of symbol and performance. Most of the landmark events in Chinese modern history took place with Tian’anmen as the backdrop. To many Chinese people, image memories with this scene as the background have become part of their historical experiences. History is always imbued with exaggeration of event narration, and the fates of ordinary people are always ignored in the description of “important historical events.” The works of Tian Zizhong, however, offer an angle for observing the fates of ordinary people through historical backgrounds, at least on the surface.
